Companion Care

As much as families would like to care for their loved ones at home, there are times it just isn’t possible. O’Connell Care at Home can ease the stress of caring for a relative who is aging or healing at home, and give family members the peace of mind that comes from knowing their loved one is not alone.

Whether you or your elderly loved one needs us for a couple of hours a day or overnight, short-term or long-term, we will act as your partner in care. Our companions can provide most any non-medical help you can think of, including:

  • Acting as the client’s advocate and to ensure they get the attention they need
  • Assisting with home safety—making sure spaces are well-lit and free of obstacles and hazards
  • Ensuring dietary guidelines are followed and the client is receiving proper nutrition
  • Escorting clients to community activities, senior centers, favorite coffee shops and restaurants, visits to friends and relatives, appointments, and social events
  • Light housekeeping and laundry
  • Making sure clients with degenerative conditions, Alzheimer’s, and other forms of dementia are safe
  • Planning, shopping and preparing meals
  • Providing company to sit quietly or engage in conversation, looking through pictures and encouraging clients to share stories of their lives
  • Running errands—trips to the pharmacy, the library, bank, post office, and stores

Sometimes, just having a friendly face show up on a regular basis can be enough. It is a priority at O’Connell Care at Home to match our clients with caregivers who are best suited to their individual needs.

If we see that a client needs more than help with the daily activities of life, we may recommend that a home health aide or other resources be called in.
